January 2 -- Harry Pavulaan
On Friday, January 2), a Comma and a Mourning Cloak were sighted in the woods at Great Falls Park. On Sunday, Jan. 4, a Question Mark was sighted sunning itself in my rock garden near the firewood pile. Having sighted another Question Mark at exactly the same spot in my garden almost exactly one year ago, leads me to believe that the technique of placing fermenting fruit bait next to the wood pile in the fall, attracts hibernators to the wood pile. In addition to bait, I stack wood in an alternating fashion (not tightly stacked as is traditional), with each successive row stacked at 90 degrees to the next row, topped off by a tarp.
