BUTTERFLY FARM TRIP DETAILS

The Washington Area Butterfly Club field trip to Naughty Pine Plantation, owned by Jay McRoberts, is scheduled for August 16, Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Jay felt we should come as soon as possible, as his butterfly farming is peaking now and will be declining by September.

Jay and his wife, Edie, currently have 2 butterfly houses in operation, one of which is 100 feet long. He has raised Baltimore checkerspots, mourning cloaks, question marks and more. At the time we spoke, they had 20 different species in various stages of development. Some of his chrysalises are going to Brookside Gardens' "Wings of Fancy" butterfly house exhibit. In addition to host and nectar plants, Jay also grows woody landscape plants.
