This is member Harry Pavulaan's paper on a new species of Azure, Celastrina idella (Holly Azure), based upon almost two decades of research conducted by Harry and his colleague David Wright. NABA (the North American Butterfly Association) has declined to accept the Holly Azure as a separate species, instead listing the Holly (and Hops and Summer) Azures as subspecies of ladon. This paper was originally published in The Taxonomic Report of the International Lepidoptera Survey. Ron Gatrelle, TILS president, has granted WABC permission to post the paper in its entirety so all interested individuals may access the data gathered on idella and draw their own conclusions regarding its taxonomy.
